iGUITAR_REVIEWS
This issue’s guitar reviews may be our most
varied selection yet. At the conservative end
of the scale we have a Rickenbacker (always
a favourite here) and a surprise find from
Washburn - a tasty semi in distinctly vintage
style. Meanwhile, out there on the very far
side, we have the YouRock MIDI guitar.
Whatever you do, don’t mistake this for a
game controller or a toy. It’s a very serious
and capable instrument, as Tom Quayle
discovers!
And how would you describe the Brian May
Special? We left that to Michael Casswell,
who has not only played with Brian, not only
played the priceless, original home-made May
guitar but has one of the early production
models of his own to compare it with.
Conventional, but completely fresh from
the brand in question is the brand new
Ibanez Roadcore, which represents a major
departure for this much loved manufacturer.
Then there’s the PRS SE version of the Dave
Navarro, which caused such a stir at last
year’s NAMM and is now widely available.
62 Guitar Interactive Magazine Issue 14
For amps, we’re thrilled to have two classic
British designs. The first is the muchanticipated
Laney Signature Iommi head - a
very serious piece of valve/tube engineering
and one with some major surprises when you
get to try one! Meanwhile, if 100 per cent
valve amps are just too expensive, how about
a very affordable all-solid state Hiwatt?
Can it really sound like a genuine Hiwatt?
We find out.
Our effects selection also covers both
extremes with two of Brian Wampler’s
incredibly highly regarded boutique pedals
on review, plus a selection from the range of
budget priced, mini pedals from newcomer
Mooer.
As I always say, we try hard to put a really
mixed bag of reviews in each issue but
we need your help. If there’s a product
you would like to hear our views on,
why not email and tell us? editor@
guitarineractivemagazine.com will always
find me!
